Mermaid Avenue Album Lauch
Mermaid Avenue mix their indie rock and alt.country with a healthy dose of 90’s classicism and oz rock swagger on their debut record ‘Temptation And Half the Truth’ which they will launch at one of Brisbane’s premier live venues The Black Bear Lodge on Sunday 12 August.
Described as the missing link between The Beatles ‘She Loves You’ and The Cult’s ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ Mermaid Avenue’s debut single Effigy puts new relationships under the microscope with an indie rock swag addressing the dating or ‘warm up’ phase of a relationship – those uncharted waters between lust, and the potential of something more.
As the opener on their upcoming album, Effigy sets the tone for the tracks that follow, taking audiences on an all-encompassing journey through the cycle of a relationship: the good, the bad, and the ugly. “We wanted to make a traditional album – one you can play from start to finish. Lyrically, the album charts the ups and downs of relationships from first kiss to the ‘bliss’ of domesticity along with the darker themes of losing loved ones, lost time and jealousy”.
Since first cutting their teeth live in 2015, Mermaid Avenue have become a regular feature on the Brisbane scene expanding their line up with the addition of keyboardist Marc Besselink from the Netherlands. Though they bring their passion for the art of songwriting and performance to every show, this one promises to be special show casing the album ‘Temptation And Half the Truth’ with a few surprises along the way.
Mermaid Avenue will be joined by very special guests Cedarsmoke and Woodshed.

Influenced by the collision of Indie Rock & Americana epitomised by bands such as Wilco and The War on Drugs, with a healthy dose of 'Purple Sneakers' style nineties classicism, Mermaid Avenue are a Brisbane based rock band built on the songwriting of Peter Clarke. Forming in 2015, they have since become a regular fixture on the Brisbane scene playing numerous local venues such as the Bearded Lady, The Globe Theatre, Beetle Bar and Rics Cafe. In November of 2015 they had the pleasure of supporting Nick Barker & the Heartache State at the Beetle Bar. In April 2016 they were invited to play at 'Triffid Roots' presented by Sarah Howells of Triple J at the Triffid. In early 2017, Mermaid Avenue headed into the studio to cut their debut album which will be due for release in late 2017/early 2018. Current members include lead guitarist Darren Madeo, bass player John Doyle Anthony Judd on drums and Marc Besselink on keys. https://www.mermaidavenueband.com/music
